Affordable Doctor Tools Mobile Pulse Oximeter Sleeves

Client: Affordable Doctor Tools
One of the first products investigated by Affordable Doctor Tools was a pocket sized Pulse Oximeter. Used to measure and monitor the saturation of oxygen in the blood stream, a fingertip pulse oximeter is generally a very bulky and expensive piece of equipment and these facts made the use of one outside of a hospital ward a little impractical despite the valuable data it provides. The ADT Mobile Pulse Oximeter is both small and affordable, and astoundingly accurate!
Rather than diving straight in with a large and risky investment ADT sensibly ordered a small shipment of 300 units to do a little test marketing. As a company new to the market, it was essential to start building a brand straight away, and the packaging of this product was a very important part of that. With a large repeat order (in the tens of thousands) it would be practical to have fully designed packaging prepared and utilised at the factory in China, but on a small starting order like this one all the units were shipped in generic box made of plain unprinted corrugated board.
There were a few options to consider regarding the branding of the box, Notably using a sticker or using a sleeve. The sleeve was the preferred option simply because it covered the plain browness of the cardboard completely and was a far more attractive looking option. The second decision was how to produce the sleeves and what it came down to was that on such a small quantity a litho print run would be prohibitively expensive per unit and given the fact that this was a test run of an entirely new product without an existing demand there was a risk of the product not moving at all so a second large investment was undesirable. The solution was to use ADT's existing laser printer to produce a single sleeve on a high quality coated paper each time an order came in. The artwork was clean and practical, and completely optimised for the laser printer's limitations and designed to make it as easy as possible to wrap the box attractively by hand. Naturally the fact that the sleeve took up only 65% of an A4 page there would be a lot of wastage. We overcame this by using the rest of the page to create an advertising insert directing the buyer to the ADT website and showcasing some other products that might be of interest.
